In 2016 I took early retirement from teaching Art as a Secondary Art Teacher. I won an appeal to prevent me from working because I was ‘on crutches’ due to chronic and painful arthritis. (And therefore couldn’t possibly be of use- despite my students achieving A’s. )
After 20 years, leaving the profession was the best decision I ever made. Despite developing further health complications, I have continued to motivate myself out of pain, and motivate and teach a wide range of groups and individuals to find their joy in their work. I create every single day on personal Art projects, as well as writing and creating a unique and painted home in Devon with my family. Every day is different and I am able to pace myself around my condition; I am blessed to know the most brilliant people and feel excited to be a lifelong sponge for new ideas, the more our classes and workshops grow and flourish. I decided early on, this illness wasn’t going to win and below is a small snapshot of some of the many projects I am and have been involved in as an Artist and teacher.
